Progress Report

18th January 2011 | View Comments

So, the progress on my house has been non-existent lately.
I’ve been trying to get back on my feet financially, so working has taken a precedent over doing anything with my house…which, BTW,  looks like a bomb went off in it.
There is something a little soul sucking about having your entire house coated with a thin [...]

Update from Crazytown…

15th January 2011 | View Comments

I’ve been so busy with outside decorating jobs, that I’ve totally been ignoring my bathroom reno….but you have to make hay while the sun shines, right?
Luckily, Scott came over a for a few hours this morning and got the drywall up in my living room to start repairing the water damage:

He’ll be back tomorrow to [...]

More demo…

5th January 2011 | View Comments

As I work on putting the bathroom back together upstairs, I started looking at repairing the water damage in the living room.
This is the wall where I originally noticed the water problem. In order to replace the pipe we had to take break into the lath and plaster:

On the opposite side of the room the [...]

A real shower!

1st January 2011 | View Comments

Can I just say…it’s a good thing I had a rough plan for this bathroom before my plumbing problems started.
Don’t get me wrong – this is the worst time EVER to have to replace plumbing and remodel, but I didn’t have any choice. Renovations are stressful under the best of circumstances -imagine doing one while [...]

Bathroom progress

My unexpected bathroom reno is coming along nicely….
We gutted the room completely and my friend John replaced the ancient pipes:

We put in a new sub-floor topped with cement board for the tile, then installed the new bathtub.

I am SOOOOOOO excited about this tub. I love to soak in long hot bath, but my last bathtub [...]

My fabulous red-neck “bathroom”

16th December 2010 | View Comments

I mentioned in my last post that I was forced to gut the only real bathroom in my house…and that it would be out of commission for an extended period of time.
So, um….where are we going to…?
In older homes, you often find a random toilet installed in the basement. Sometimes they have a rough “walls” [...]

I am DEMO GIRL

15th December 2010 | View Comments

When I moved back into my house a few months ago, I noticed some ominous bubbling of the paint in the living room:

I investigated, and found that the sink in the bathroom upstairs was leaking into the vanity. I fooled around with it and thought the problem was solved. No worries.
Until….after taking a shower a [...]

Mosaic End Tables

9th June 2010 | View Comments

I just finished working on a pair of very cool end tables for the living room at the cabin.
I turned this:

Into this:

I am THRILLED with how awesome they came out!
You can get all the details at my other blog – The Cabin Chronicles.

Kicky Kitchen Bulletin Board

1st June 2010 | View Comments

The kitchen in the apartment I live in now is the ugliest EVER. I refuse to even post pictures here….it’s too embarrassing.
Think flimsy dark cabinets with peeling laminate from the 70’s (no hardware), faux butcher block laminate counters and cheap appliances. My first apartment when I was 17 was nicer than this….truly.
I’m not going to [...]

Coastal Jewelry Box

25th May 2010 | View Comments

This wooden box is one of my recent thrift store finds. It breaks up into 3 separate levels:

Fun, right?
I thought it was very cool, but maybe a little plain. I sprayed on some primer:

Then hit it with blue spray paint:

Which I promptly decided was WAY too turquoise for my taste.
(which is funny because I’m completely [...]
