Escapism, Jumping the Shark & the Big Bedroom Reveal

8th July 2010 | View Comments

From Wikipedia:
“Jumping the shark is an idiom used to describe the moment of downturn for a previously successful enterprise.”
If you looked at the rooms in my house or apartment, you wouldn’t find anything too crazy. My style tends to be a little eclectic, but I wouldn’t say it’s too far out there…with the possible exception [...]

Kicky Kitchen Bulletin Board

The kitchen in the apartment I live in now is the ugliest EVER. I refuse to even post pictures here….it’s too embarrassing.
Think flimsy dark cabinets with peeling laminate from the 70’s (no hardware), faux butcher block laminate counters and cheap appliances. My first apartment when I was 17 was nicer than this….truly.

Coastal Jewelry Box

This wooden box is one of my recent thrift store finds. It breaks up into 3 separate levels:

On my last trip to the thrift store I found these pictures for a couple bucks each:

I’ve been on the hunt for a few more things to put on the walls in my bedroom. Since I can’t paint, I’m trying to get a lot of color and texture onto the walls – but my budget [...]

Dresser Makeover

A couple of months ago I ran across this little dresser/nightstand at the thrift store:

I was keeping my eyes open for something like this….I had a pair of matching nightstands in my bedroom that I like a lot, but on one side of the bed I had a little too much room – and this [...]

Cheap art & a candelier remix

The Christmas Tree Shop might be one of the best things that has ever happened to Syracuse (we’re at least 5-10+ years behind in getting the stores bigger cities have). If you’ve never checked them out, CTS should be your first stop for inexpensive curtain panels, lamps, and home decor. The one thing they don’t sell is actual Christmas trees (???).
It’s [...]
