Home Staging Part 2 (and the magic of swirly pillows)
The house I’ve been staging sold! In one week!!!!
The home owners and the Realtor are THRILLED.
You can find my original post about the first part of this project HERE.
I added a few finishing touches on the rooms we already staged. I put some fresh flowers in the sun room:
And set the dining room table:
Swapped out the dated sheers in the sitting room:
For some more contemporary panels that helped bring some color and warmth into the room:
Bad picture…sorry. The lighting was tricky.
I set out a bottle of wine to reinforce the idea that the house is great for entertaining:
But the biggest transformation by far was in the basement. This is where we started:
The room was painted a dark smoky blue gray. Now that the kids are out of the house, the basement featured an old metal desk, exercise equipment and random junk. The Realtor wanted the room staged as a 4th bedroom, so we decided to create a guest suite.
My original plan was to paint the walls a soft tan or taupe and use all white bedding, wicker accessories and blue and green accents. Unfortunately, the paint looked yellow once we got it on the walls.
It wasn’t at all what I was going for, but it did brighten up the room a lot so I decided to adapt my original game plan.
I used a blow up bed on top of a frame and covered an upholstered headboard with brown burlap. I had a duvet cover that worked better than the original white one.
I wish I had taken a before picture of this dresser….sigh.
Someone had sanded the finish off the top and it was pretty beat up. The homeowners were planning on selling it in their garage sale, but I grabbed it because I knew it would come in handy down here. I found some stain in their garage that was a good match to the original finish and rubbed it in with a rag. The top got 2 coats because it was down to the bare wood. I switched out the knobs for some that I had leftover from another project, and it was became the perfect piece for the room.
The space is a long L shape. We put the dresser, bed and nightstands in the larger part of the room as you walk downstairs and created a seating area at the end.
The homeowners had the small fridge, so we created a little area for snacks and beverages at the end of the L.
We actually didn’t get a chance to finish this room because it sold so fast. I had planned on putting some baskets to the shelf of the table, replacing the ugly fluorescent lights with more contemporary ones and putting bamboo blinds to the windows.
Even so, it was a HUGE improvement.
Here is the funniest part about the whole story….
The couple who bought the house walked into the living room and saw this pillow:
I bought a pair of these from Christmas Tree Shop for $6.99 each. This room didn’t need much tweaking, but it was actually a little bit TOO neutral – so I brought these in to introduce some pattern.
The couple is getting married and apparently the pattern on the pillow is EXACTLY the pattern on their “save the date” cards. The woman looked at her fiance and said, “It was meant to be!”.
Maybe I should go back to Christmas Tree Shop and buy up all the swirly pillows? LOL.
The total cost of completely redoing this room – just the paint! We used things the homeowners had and supplemented with the things of mine.
I’m linking up to these fun parties:
